Andy Burgess
ANDY BURGESS
Andy Burgess is a London-born painter and collage artist now residing in Tucson, Arizona. His work is in many major art collections and is frequently exhibited internationally. Burgess is best known for his large-scale paintings of architectural subjects which celebrate modernist and contemporary architecture and explore its relationship to modern art and, in particular, abstract painting. Whether rediscovering lost architectural gems in the “International Style” or reinterpreting classic and famous “Mid-Century Modern” homes, Burgess’s paintings employ an intense palette and bold geometric forms to bring a fresh perspective to the architecture and create emotionally resonant images.
In 2012 Burgess had his first museum exhibit, Paper City at The University of Arizona Museum of Art. This was followed by a solo exhibition in New York in 2014 and two printmaking residencies at the prestigious Tandem Press in Madison, Wisconsin in 2016/17. Following this, 2018 was a pivotal year that saw a solo exhibit, Mid-Century Perspectives at The Tucson Museum of Art, and the publication of his first monograph, Modernist House Paintings: Andy Burgess, published by Nazraeli Press.
